GAME MATCHING EXPLAINED

Postby devsquad » 13 Jul 2015 00:42

Game Matching works slightly differently for Open maps than for Historic maps. In summary though, you will usually be matched against someone quicker if you use the "Quick Match" option, or if you select "Random Map" when using the "Custom Match" option.

Open Maps

There are two ways to be matched on an Open map.

If you create a game by choosing 'Quick Match' then the game will first try to match you with any as yet un-matched open map game out there. If there is none found then a map will be selected randomly and a new game created which will then be open for matching as soon as you complete your first turn.

If you create a game by choosing 'Custom Match' and then select a specific map the game will first try to match you with a game already created with that map and waiting on an opponent. If none is found then a new game will be created and will be open for matching as soon as you complete your first turn. If you instead choose "Random Map" as the map, then it works exactly as if you had selected 'Quick Match', explained above.

Note that in all cases you cannot be matched to a existing game if you select the same nation to play as the nation selected by the person who created the game, e.g. Germany cannot play against Germany, and so on.

Historic Maps

When you choose to be matched against a random opponent after selecting a Historic Map, the game will look for any open match of that map that is awaiting an opponent. If you chose what side you wanted to play (ie. not left the slider in the middle) then in order to find a match the open side must also be the side you selected to play. If no available match is found then a new game is created and will be available for matching as soon you finish your first turn, if you are the side that goes first in the historic map, or else you will wait for someone to have chosen the map (and not the second side) for matching. By default, if you do not select what side to play in a historic map then you will always be the side that plays first.
